I drive for Uber and everyone I’ve asked about self driving cars said basically, hell no. As for me, I’m beyond hell no. I went to school for software engineering, and I am writing a science fiction novel that addresses this very issue. Replacing people with computers is not only stupid, but against the very nature of humanity.

The entire purpose of technology is to assist human beings to control their own lives better, not to simply replace humans doing everyday tasks. Even all the robots in manufacturing is not correct or proper.

Tool marks are what makes humanity what it is and even the errors humans make, even those mistakes that include mortality, are essential parts of humanity and responsibility. If you remove the human hand from the equation, who then carries the responsibility of the thing, the ultimate weight of the decision? Some programmer? A peice of software? The mark of a hammer is the mark of a man or woman that built it and those people have both the right and necessity of owning what they’ve been a part of building.

And in viewing this concept of robotic this and computerized that, a capitalist economy depends on workers working to make a living and then spending that living on life. To replace this basic human aspect with a universal basic income is the atrocity that trumps all other atrocities. Human beings are social creachers and we must be responsible within our own scope of all the rest in society or basic morality will break down and death will soon follow.

The tool mark is what is missing from our modern society. The tool mark is what will bring lost things back again and stabilize our future. The tool mark is far better than robotic perfection because an idle hand is indeed the devil’s playground and you don’t have to be any kind of beleiver to realize this natural fact. We must build up our race or watch it fall. Robots are not better than people!
